Its the first of August and already I'm feeling the energy of anxious parents preparing to send children off to school. Some entering for their fist year of school while others entering their last year of school.
Its so important to pay attention to our children, listen to them when they speak, watch their interaction with other children and ask questions to probe their mind. Sometimes, its the smallest thing a child may do or say that goes unnoticed.
Mental Health can start early in children, shocking enough as early as pre-school. No one wants to see a child struggle; sometimes its hard for them to say what one may feel. Trust your judgment to seek help early if you feel unsure about your children mental wellbeing.
As I look back over my life and the task I honored as a mom, I really thought I had it all figured out. Working to provide for my family being a single parent had its struggles but it was also rewarding. There were so many times, like the crying when I left, the being afraid of the dark, the attachment challenge and all the long hours of doing homework, I often think about. Had I been informed about an organization like OBEYAJ who would direct me to resources and given me understanding of what was going on, the early morning I received a call; I would have had the knowledge and understanding to share, that could possibly shaved years of hurt and pain!
Parents pay attention to your children this school year, get involved in their school curriculum
and never ever assume your children are okay! KNOW your children are better than okay!
